How to choose a diamond: quality of the cut

How to recognize the quality of size?

If the quality of the cut, of the right proportions, is the secret of a beautiful and brilliant diamond, the appreciation is still relatively subjective and the evaluation, even among experts, can vary. In order to guide you in choosing the diamond that will be yours, Diamant-Antwerp has designed a tool with the help of experts in gemology and international laboratories, to allow you to identify the size that will suit you, for 6 of the usual shapes of diamonds. At this level of quality (Well cut), the differences are almost imperceptible to the naked eye, the diagram makes it possible to identify the acceptable proportions for each of the categories (Perfect, Excellent, Very good) for each form indicated.

The "ideal" size

A very broad subject, which divides professionals today. To obtain the maximum brilliance, sparkle, "life", a diamond must be cut according to certain dimensions and proportions. Diamond cutters must carefully consider the optical properties of each diamond in order to determine the optimum size. On the other hand, be aware that there are different standards, one for the United States and another for Europe. This means that the so-called “ideal size” diamonds will not have quite the same proportions and dimensions depending on whether we consider the American market, European respectively. As you can see, the proportions and dimensions of a so-called “ideal” size are not identical and standardized, but vary from one continent to another. The brilliance of a diamond according to the proportions of its size:
"Ideal" size The light is reflected from one facet to another and then dispersed by the crown or the top of the stone
Shallow waist The light escapes through the pavilion or the background before being reflected.
Waist too deep
Some light escapes from the opposite side of the pavilion or the backdrop.
